About Sichuan Gourmet

Sichuan Gourmet is a szechuan in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It is listed at 1900 Murray Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15217, which places it among the local businesses of Pittsburgh that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by. Google also lists it under asian restaurant, chinese restaurant, which is worth knowing if you are comparing several options in the area.

In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Pittsburgh; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in Pennsylvania are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

Hours are published for 7 days a week. On most of those days it is open 11 am–3 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (412) 521-1313. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. More information is available on its website, malahousepgh.com.

Its Google rating is 4.0 out of 5 from 756 reviews, a solid but mixed picture; reading the most recent reviews will tell you what to expect.

Pittsburgh is in Pennsylvania, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Traffic in Pittsburgh peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. Addresses read from the street number up to the city, state abbreviation and five-digit ZIP code; the map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Good Sichuanese food but not the best I’ve ever had. Lamb chops were delicious but pricey, with good spicy seasoning. Spicy Chicken was good, but supposed to come with peanuts. Tofu was excellent. The place is cash only for now, they say their computer isn’t set up yet. Excellent gesture by serving ice cream at the end!

Absolutely. Incredibly. Terribly. Bad. This was the worst grilled fish I have ever had in my life. We had actually been here once before. Back then the food was mediocre. About on par with a college dining hall. Considering how disappointing Chinese food in Pittsburgh generally is it was still acceptable enough. Recently friends told us the restaurant had gotten worse. We did not really believe it. After all grilled fish is not a complicated dish. At worst the seasoning might be too strong. The vegetables might be fewer. The technical difficulty is essentially zero. It is just fish cooked with a seasoning base. Unfortunately we were wrong. The fish they call β€œQingjiang fish” is nothing like the fish commonly used for grilled fish in China. The skin was unbelievably thick. Chewy. Rubbery. It felt more like pork skin that had been boiled for hours than fish skin. The flesh was as firm as chicken breast. It had almost no fish flavor. It was incredibly difficult to pull apart. Eating it felt less like eating fish and more like physically tearing meat off a carcass. Every bite required enough force to send broth splashing everywhere. The service was equally disappointing. We had an excellent meal here! The spring onion beef was SO TENDER that was my favorite dish. The cumin tofu was very crispy and flavorful. The bok choy and greens come in a delicious garlic sauce. The chicken fried rice was also very flavorful. The food was so good, i'm suprised its not rated higher. I want to come back to try more dishes.

Very good restaurant with some nice spicy options. I got the spicy fish filet soup, which I've had in other restaurants before. Delicious and spicy. Our waitress was great and friendly. Everything was ready quickly and looked great upon arrival. I would definitely go back again.

My husband and I came here and enjoyed quite a variety! We had cheese Rangoon and spicy cold noodles for an appetizer. Both were excellent. For dinner we order four different dishes the pork spare rib hot pot, spicy chicken flaming pan, chicken and broccoli from the Pittsburgh favorite menu, and braised beef brisket with bamboo clay pot (forgot to get a picture). My favorite was the chicken and broccoli. It was the best I’ve had around Pittsburgh. My husband loved the pork spare ribs. They were so crispy and flavorful. We had sooo many delicious leftovers to take home. The best part was the prices were very affordable. We spent under $75 for everything.
